Latest update

I have been so busy that I haven't had time to update the blog in a while. Dan is having a wonderful time at Pace. He is kept busy with all the animals. When I saw him there a couple weeks ago, he had been busy all day digging a garden for some girl scouts who were working on their gold award. The girls came to Pace in flip flops and manicures to create the garden so Jim (the man who runs the Environmental Center) and Dan ended up doing the bulk of the work.

School has been busy. The secretary I work with has quit and the Superintendent has decided not to replace her. This means that the remaining administrative secretaries have to pick up all of her work. He also isn't replacing a secretary in the Guidance office who just retired. How those poor secretaries (1 full time and one part time) are supposed to get out the college applications for almost 300 students is beyond me.

I made a shawl for a friend in the school for her 50th birthday that I think came out well. The picture is above. The color is way off, It is really a very rich tanish/gold color. Vicki has received many compliments on it.

I haven't been making shawls for the cancer centers lately because everyone keeps having babies. I have made a number of blankets, hats, sweaters and booties. I am also working on an alpaca scarf for Matt. (now Dan wants one) I am going to the Sheep and Wool festival in Rhinebeck, NY next weekend. There must be a few hundred wool vendors there. I can't wait.

School was closed on Thursday for Yom Kippur (Oh the joys of working in a public school system in New York) and I have a three day weekend due to Columbus Day. Monday and Tuesday are filled with doctor appointments. It is nice to be down to follow-ups every 6 months instead of every week (or sometimes every day). On a side note, there is a lovely woman in my school named Carolyn who is very sick with cancer. Please keep her in your prayers. She has a wonderful husband and 3 young children.

The executor of my step-mother's estate was able to find my father's cremation certificate, which my step-mother refused to give me. So I can finally bury my father's ashes with the rest of his family. My brother and his family are coming in from California for Christmas and we will bury him while they are here. I never thought that we would ever be able to do this.

My life right now is filled with work, knitting and crocheting. I gathered all my yarn in one place (Matt's old bedroom). It looks so much more than it really is since a large portion is made up of the bits and pieces from old projects. I should make a scrap afghan with some of it just so I can use up some of my stash. One of the custodians keeps bringing in huge boxes of yarn that his wife wants to give away. Naturally, the secretaries who knit all end up taking some home adding to our stashes. I will start teaching knitting and crocheting again at the high school and at the cancer support organization in a month or so. We had stopped at Support Connection for the summer and will start again when the weather gets cold.
