Suzie and I went to Brooklyn today to visit a cousin who recently moved into a condo in Bay Ridge. If you ignore the fact that the signs in the city are terrible and they lie, the beginning of the trip was fine. They said that there were two lanes going to the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel when there was only one and we ended up on the FDR Drive. We had to get off the FDR Drive, turn around, get back on the FDR Drive going in the opposite direction, see a sudden sign for the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel and almost hit a car in my blind spot trying to get over to where I had to be. We finally got to Brooklyn and had a fine time. Coming home we got a flat on the BQE where there was 5 or 6 lanes and no shoulder. At the toll for the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel a police officer was able to get us off the road where we had to wait for over an hour for AAA to arrive. The man who arrived had to be talked through changing a tire on the phone and two hours after the flat we were finally on our way on a donut spare. We got through the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel and guess what? There were signs only for the FDR Drive. So we ended up on the FDR Drive again and had to cut through lower Manhattan to get to the West Side Highway. All of this happened in the pouring rain. I hate driving in the city. Next time I'll take the bus and train. At least we made home safely, had a few glasses of wine and all is better. I was so glad to see the sign for the Taconic Parkway.
Tomorrow I'm off to buy a new tire and to start finding things for Matt's condo. He closes on Friday.
